Port of Teignmouth Donates Funds to Support Volunteering in Health Charity

November 4, 2019 by Lianne Stephens

Port of Teignmouth team sponsors Vontueering in HealthAssociated British Ports’ (ABP) stevedoring team at the Port of Teignmouth has nominated the local charity, Volunteering in Health, to receive a £500 donation in support its vital work in the local community.

Volunteering in Health is a South Devon charity supporting local people to improve their health and wellbeing, a topic with which ABP shares a core focus. ABP’s own ‘Beyond Zero’ company culture, aims not only to achieve zero accidents at work but also to create an environment, which helps colleagues thrive and improves their overall wellbeing.

This is not the first time ABP has worked with Volunteering in Health, as back in February this year, it donated three tonnes of sand to be used to build a beach as part of a ‘Don't Bottle It Up’ wellbeing event, focused on mental health.  The event was organised in support of the charity at the local pub, The Blue Anchor.

Chloe Myers, Manager of Volunteering in Health, said "We are so grateful to ABP and The Blue Anchor for their donations and support in helping raise awareness of our work among people who might not otherwise have heard of us. As well as our popular transport, befriending and home help services, we support local people to make changes to their lives that will improve their long term health and wellbeing. To find out more, please contact us on 01626 771695."

ABP’s Teignmouth team regularly gets involved in charitable causes including sponsoring the annual Teignmouth Carnival and organising charitable sports events, such as a recent Tug of War challenge which raised funds for Oxfam.

Alex Chinchen, Divisional Port Manager – South West, said: “At ABP we share a strong commitment to safety and raising awareness around mental health and that is why it is great to see our Teignmouth team back a local charity that helps individuals improve their wellbeing.

“The Port of Teignmouth not only plays a valuable role in the local economy by supporting around 1,200 jobs in the South West of England, it is also central to the heart of the local community due to its work with schools and local charities.”

More information about the Port of Teignmouth and its role at the heart of the local community can be found on ABP’s website: www.abports.co.uk/locations/teignmouth/
