Our CEO, Geraint Evans, has been out and about on port visits and attending conferences in recent weeks. His time in South Wales encompassed the Ports of Newport and Port Talbot, highlighting their vital role in the UK economy. Newport continues to support diverse industries and trade, while Port Talbot remains crucial for heavy industry and future green energy investment.
Following this, the Welsh Ports Group held a Senedd reception to mark a leadership transition. Andrew Harston was thanked for his dedicated service as outgoing Chair and the Group welcomed Tom Sawyer into position as he leads Welsh ports into a new era of growth and innovation.

At Interchange 25 in Manchester, Geraint stated that “No port is an island”, reinforcing that ports are central to infrastructure and investment decisions. Strategic investment in coastal communities unlocks billions in major port projects across the UK. In an increasingly competitive global landscape, integrated support for critical national infrastructure ports is vital—economically and geopolitically.
The UK’s major ports share the new Government’s ambition to drive growth, protect the environment, and seize future opportunities. Strengthening our ports and coastal communities is key to building a sustainable and prosperous future.
