Recent Ventures by The UK Major Ports Group

The UK Major Ports Group (UKMPG) team recently embarked on a series of visits, where sustainability efforts being taken forward in the maritime sector were clear to see.

Witnessing Maritime Milestones at the Port of Felixstowe

During a visit to the Port of Felixstowe, our team had the privilege of witnessing the maiden call in Northern Europe of the world’s first methanol-enabled container vessel, the Ane Maersk. This event underscores the significant strides being made in decarbonising major ports.

Decarbonisation in Action: Insights from Belfast Harbour

In Belfast Harbour, our team met with colleagues and toured the water onboard an HVO-powered pilot boat. The level of regeneration and investment in the port area was evident, showcasing a commitment to sustainability across diverse interests.

Peel Ports’ Renewable Energy Initiatives in Scotland

Our journey also took us to Scotland, where Peel Ports is leading the charge in transforming brownfield areas into sites for renewable energy, reflecting a broader commitment to sustainability within the maritime sector.

These visits highlight the ongoing efforts of UK major ports to decarbonise and embrace sustainability. By investing in new technologies and renewable energy, we are collectively shaping a more environmentally friendly future for maritime transportation.
